OUR PROGRAM

Our program is based on the Developmental Appropriate Readiness Program approach to learning and is designed to help children ages 3 – 5 be prepared for their elementary school years.

OBJECTIVES

A. To develop the child’s self-image in a positive way so as to encourage self-confidence and an enthusiastic interest in learning.

1. The regular use of paper, scissors, glue, markers, paints, clay and other hand tools to develop fine motor skills.

2. The daily planning of games and physical activities (balance beam, jump rope, hopscotch, etc.) in the classroom and on the playground.

B. To teach the child common courtesy:

1. Sharing

2. Listening

3. Respect for the rights of others

4. Use of good manners

C. To develop communication skills:

1. Stories

2. Songs

3. Poems

4. Listening

5. Sharing experiences with the group (Show & Tell)

6. Speech

a. Eliminate baby talk

b. Formation of proper sounds

c. Identify speech problems

D. To encourage the child’s love of God and moral values of the Christian faith:

1. Opening prayer

2. Prayer before snack

3. Friday morning chapel service

4. Use of Bible stories and songs

E. To acquire readiness skills in these areas by use of Thematic Units

1. Early math skills – recognizing shapes, number concepts, ordinal positions (first, second etc.).

2. Introduction to the identification and sounds of letters.

3. Hands on approach to science centers.

4. Using creativity in art experiences and dramatic play.

5. Enriching social studies activities by inviting resource people to our center.

6. An understanding and celebration of holidays and historical events.

Planned activities will offer each child plenty of "hands-on" experiences for exploring the five senses and learning about the world through stimulating materials.
